BOOK REVIEW: Pretend Soup and Other Real Recipes: A Cookbook for Preschoolers and Up (By Mollie Katzen and Ann Henderson)

November 12, 2019

I happened to purchase this book recently and to my surprise, it's a new favorite of mine. This visual children's cookbook will encourage any child to cook. We all know if kids are the ones who cook it, they will likely be the ones to eat it.

This book offers children and families easy, healthy, and delicious recipes that encourage everyone to have fun in the kitchen together. Each recipe appears twice, in words for the adult or older child and visual graphics for the non-readers.

My grandsons love making recipes from this book. Instead of waiting for me to tell them what the next step is, this book gives them all the visual clues in our "cooking with grandma" sessions.

This is a great cookbook designed for both preschoolers and older children.  It uses pictures for recipes so those who can’t read yet learn important skills in the kitchen like math, reading, science, food literacy, and most important....patience.

Renowned author, Mollie Katzen, and educator, Ann Henderson, bring the world of cooking to a child’s level. The recipes are designed to inspire an appreciation for wholesome food.

Creative watercolor pictures of each recipe will help young cooks understand and enjoy the cooking process. If you're thinking about Christmas, this book would make a great gift for the child in your life!
